Bibione-Brussa-Vallevecchia-Bibione
Vallevecchia is an island that extends for about 9 km on the coast between Bibione and Caorle. Surrounded by lagoon, river and sea waters, it maintains its natural integrity thanks to one of the longest stretches of undeveloped beach in the upper Adriatic. Sand dunes, sandy shores, pinewoods, ponds and cultivated fields, a population of over 150 species of birds, from swans to herons, through to majestic black-winged stilts. An eco-system that also fascinated the American writer Ernest Hemingway, who described it in his novel “Across the River and into the Trees”. From Bibione, the island can be reached by water thanks to the boat service from Brussa beach, or by crossing the cycle bridge along the Taglio Canal in Prati Nuovi.
An educational visit to the Nature Museum and a tasty stop in one of the local trattorias or osterias are a must.
